On Sunday evening October 21 fans of the award winning musical smash Jersey Boys had the rare opportunity to meet Broadway's "Four Seasons" at an exclusive cocktail party benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).

Tony Award-winner John Lloyd Young (Frankie Valli), Tony Award-winner Christian Hoff (Tommy DeVito), Daniel Reichard (Bob Gaudio), J. Robert Spencer (Nick Massi/Joe Long) and cast members of Jersey Boys came together for a special one-time-only evening of conversation, cocktails and hors d'ouevres with fans of the show.
The legendary members of The Four Seasons Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio and Tommy DeVito and Joe Long were also on-hand. The event was held at The View Bar on the 48th floor of The Marriott Marquis in Times Square, and also featured a silent and live auction of rare autographed one of a kind Jersey Boys memorabilia.

"Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons; a group of blue collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records world wide – all before they were thirty," explain press notes.

I’ll make this short, and then you can continue on and view the pictures.
What can I say? Another “Oh What A Night” happening to experience. I just can’t get enough of these, and when I think there will be no more another opportunity presents itself. The main purpose of this evening was to raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Funds Aids, surely a very worthwhile purpose. But in all honesty I was there to see the Jersey Boys, both faux and real. Meeting up with old friends and finally put faces to names I had only known by way of the Internet. Everyone involved was as gracious and friendly as could be.
The highlight of the evening was having Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Joe Long together in one setting.

JOE LONG REMAINS THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE FOUR SEASONS NOT INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IN CLEVELAND.

Despite his extensive contributions to the Four Seasons, Joe Long remains the only member of the group's “definitive line up” not inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, most likely because he was not one of groups "founders" in 1962. Much controversy still exists over this questionable decision, especially in light of the many top-10 hits the group had during his tenure.

The Boycott of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland
If you are a true rock and roll fan you should boycott the rock and roll hall of fame, do not watch its well hyped TV induction show and do not buy tickets to visit their museum in cleveland!

The fans of rock and roll music that pay to buy albums/CDs, concert tickets, admission tickets to the rock and roll hall of fame museum, watch sponsors TV ads during the induction shows, etc. have no voice in the induction process. Only a few elite insiders (mostly from Rolling Stone Magazine) deside what the rock and roll fans should like and only they deside who goes into the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland.

A wrote a letter requesting that Joe Long be inducted with the other members of The Four Season (he belongs! I saw them in concert at the Garden and AC, these rock and roll elitists from Rolling Stone Mag did not!! But yet they will tell us, the fans who are the best rock and roll musicians. Thanks, however I think the fans know better).

The Response to my letter to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Thanks for your comments about Joe Long.
Nomination and induction into the Hall of Fame is not about popularity, records sales, which label the group is on, or anything other than the process below. The love for, the evaluation of, and the impact of any artist are subjective questions to be answered by the nominators and the voters. Unlike baseball, football, basketball or hockey, statistics are not relevant.
The entire nomination and induction process is coordinated by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York City. Artists can be inducted in four categories: Performer, Early Influence, Non-Performer and Side-Men. The latter three categories are evaluated and decided by separate committees. The selection of Performers is a two-step process as described below.
The only formal criteria for the performance category is that an artist has to have had their first record 25 years ago. That said, candidates are reviewed and discussed relative to their impact on this music that we broadly call rock and roll. The innovation and influence of these artists is also critical. Gold records, number one hits, and million sellers are really not appropriate standards for evaluation.
The formal selection of Performers begins with an extensive panel of journalists, historians, previous inductees, noted musicians, industry heads, etc. In turn, those nominated are sent to a committee of more than 500 people around the world (journalists, historians, music industry management, all living inductees, musicians, etc.) who vote. Those receiving the highest number of votes and more than 50% of the votes cast are inducted into the Hall. Usually, this means five to seven new performing members each year. All this said, you can see the road to being inducted is an arduous one and for the most part, removed from the realm of influences or politics.
Once the Four Seasons were selected, the Advisory Committee looked at the history of the group, i.e., origins, songwriting for the group, arranging the group, etc., and decided to induct only the original four members. I understand your displeasure but this is a ruling that has to be made with every band or group inducted. Each time, this committee examines the history and impact of all those playing a role and then makes a determination as to who is inducted..

The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Joe Long.

All tracks have been digitally remastered, but the bottom line is that it's one of the best-ever pop-rock Christmas albums, right up there with A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR YOU FROM PHIL SPECTOR and the Beach Boys' CHRISTMAS ALBUM. It is a bit more traditional than either of those (translation: It rocks out only sporadically), but given the Season's vocal approach, there's something ineffably and wonderfully weird about hearing them sing, say, "The Excelsis Deo Medley"; this could easily be a bunch of Benedectine monks on helium. In any case, it's all but impossible to resist their great Jersey doo-wop take on "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" or a version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" done a la "Big Girls Don't Cry." Essential stuff!!

I Love this CD I have grown up listening to this CD on LP at my Mom's house and I was crying listening to the sound clips from this CD. I cannot believe that I found it on CD for my Mom !!!! She does not even have a LP player anymore so she cannot listen to her favorite holiday songs and this will just make her Christmas !!!!! Submitted by Sandy in Louisville, KY

Why are the corporate record companies and even the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" rewriting the history of 1960s Rock?
I could not agree more! This corporate greed of changing classic rock groups to meet the marketing needs of record distributors is out of hand. Come one, the Four Seasons, like the Beatles and the Beach Boys are not just another “Boy Band”. These groups all had major talent and the Four Seasons were much more then just some greatest hits by Frankie Valli. The true Four Seasons of the 60s were: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Joe Long. But it seems corporate Broadway and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are trying to sell the public a different story- well we’re not buying it! OK, I did buy a ticket to the Broadway Play, it was excellent! But it was designed to be a smash hit and tells the story of how the Four Seasons got their start- sort of. But it confuses us that saw the real show in the 1960s. Where was Joe Long? Massi was not in any of the concerts I saw. OK, I realize it made of an easier story to tell, but lets face it The Real Four Seasons are: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Joe Long. Yes there is like the name implies "4" Seasons.

The Four Seasons where all over the radio in the 60s. I remember turning the AM dial on my car radio and it was either a Beatles or Beach Boys or Four Seasons song. The Four Seasons were the sound of East Coast Rock n Roll in the 1960s and even into the early 70s. They were fun times.

Lots of cool stuff on this site- I hope fans keep posting. Love seeing all this classic Seasons stuff.

Hey Lets See Some More of the "Real Four Seasons"
It seems now you can only get lame re-pakaged corporate "greatest hit" CDs, with mostly Frankie Valli's picture on it- but that's not the classic Four Seasons group from the 60s that was all over the AM dial. Oh, and what great concerts in thoughs years. That was rock and roll. Frankie Valli now singing some of the so called hits is not the same, not by a long shot. We know a Beatles or Beach Boy reunion concert is sadly not possible. But the Four Seasons should do a reunion tour or concert- Oh what a night that would be. The "real" Four Seasons- Valli, Gaudio, DeVito and Long. - not Valli on tour with some other backup guys calling themsleves the 4 sesons.

A Non-Four Seasons Post (Sad News today) :

Dr. Hunter Thompson died at his self-described "fortified compound" in Woody Creek, Colorado, at 5:42 p.m. on February 20, 2005, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was 67 years old.

He was a great fan of Four Seasons music and we were all a great fans of his! Thanks for all the great years of Gonzo. We'll all miss you!!

The Classic 4 Seasons Rock and Roll Line Up (1965-1975)
This is the group that most of us saw in concert and the true fans consider this to be the "Definitive Seasons Lineup". This was the "American Beatles": Frankie, Bob, Tommie and Joey! An earlier Do wap version of the group included Nick Massi and after the mid 70s the classic Four Seasons had disbanded and Frankie Valli toured then began to tour with many other backup musicians billing themselves as the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. These later shows where just Valli performing Four Seasons greatest hits and songs for the movie Greese. But, the real 4 Seasons Rock and Roll shows where in the last 60s with Valli, Gaudio and DeVito and Long. All real fans agree, if you did not see this line up, then you really did not see a true Rock and Roll Four Seasons Show! They where at their best then!!!!!
